This hero WOD is dedicated to police Captain Vinny Liberto of the Mandeville Police Department in Louisiana, who was shot and killed on September 20, 2019 at the intersection of Causeway Boulevard and La. 22 while engaged in a vehicle pursuit. He was 58 years old at the time.
Capt. Liberto and another officer were pursuing a vehicle at the time of his death when it crashed. An occupant of the vehicle immediately exited and opened fire, killing Capt. Liberto and injuring the other officer.
In November 2019, Messina Street in Mandeville was renamed to Captain Vincent Liberto Jr. Drive in his honor.
